A Sensory Garden by FC Porto to reinforce education, sustainability and awareness raising among the youth

In the past month of April, a new Sensory Garden was created at the Casa Dragão of FC Porto, the residence for young athletes in the football academy. This project not only represents the club’s commitment to environmental sustainability but also serves as a powerful educational tool, conveying to the athletes the importance of acting responsibly. The Sensory Garden goes beyond being a simple outdoor space — it integrates sport, education, and sustainability, showing that these areas can coexist harmoniously.

The creation of this garden was a true team effort. The young resident athletes actively participated in the construction of the space, putting into practice the sustainability concepts they have learned. Through this, FC Porto reinforces its vision that the future of sport must also involve sustainable practices, and that even the simplest actions can have an impact on caring for the planet.

This project marks a milestone in the implementation of the Coração Verde (Green Heart) certification, reflecting FC Porto’s commitment to environmental education for future generations. By creating this space, the club not only inspires but also educates, promoting a greener and more conscious future for all. LIPOR played a key role in the development and implementation of the sensory garden, being an essential partner in this sustainability project.

Additionally, the implementation of the Coração Verde certification at the Estádio do Dragão was one of the pilot projects defined within the ACCESS project, co-financed by the European Commission. This project, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability within sports facilities, is one of the many actions FC Porto is undertaking to strengthen its commitment to the environment.

The aim of the Sensory Garden project is clear: to reinforce FC Porto’s environmental commitment by extending it to the Casa Dragão and to teach young athletes the importance of environmental responsibility from an early age. The goal is to demonstrate that the club’s values are not limited to the football pitch but also apply to the environment, encouraging athletes to reflect on the impact of their actions on the planet. This is just the beginning of a journey that involves everyone — the club, the athletes, and the community — in building a more sustainable future.
