ACCESS appears at Sport Positive’s webinar on circular economy and resource efficiency in football

As a part of the ongoing project Free Kicks, which addresses the topics of circular economy and environmental sustainability among football organisations, a webinar dedicated to this topic welcomed Míde Ní Shúilleabháin of GAA and the ACCESS project.

As this European co-funded project reports, the average European football match generates 0.8 kg of waste per spectator what equals 750.000 tonnes per year when all matches organised by European national football associations are taken into account. Therefore, the project wants to push for a more circular model for resources to reduce the environmental impact of football, and sport more widely.

This webinar was targeting those participants implementing circular economy practices within club operations, enhancing resource efficiency in stadiums or venues, reducing waste and extending the lifecycle of facilities and equipment and engaging fans and stakeholders through sustainable initiatives.

For this purpose, the webinar featured Thom Rawson, Sustainability Lead at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and founder of Sustainable Football, Florin Şari, Public Policy and Social Responsibility Manager at the Romanian Football Federation and ACCESS’ own Míde Ní Shúilleabháin, also Sustainability Advisor at GAA’s Green Club Programme.
