Football Association of Wales to launch Cymru Football Biodiversity Partnership
In a move to unite football and nature, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) are set to launch the formation of the Cymru Football Biodiversity Partnership. This new network brings together leading nature conservation organisations with the goal of protecting and enhancing biodiversity across Wales through football.
The partnership includes esteemed organisations such as the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), National Trust, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Size of Wales, Keep Wales Tidy, and The Wildlife Trusts. Together, these entities will leverage their collective expertise to address pressing environmental challenges both locally and globally.
Jason Webber, FAW Senior EDI & Sustainability Manager
“Our vision is to create a platform where the world of football can significantly contribute to the preservation and restoration of our natural environment. This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to not just be champions on the field, but take the lead on restoring and protecting our natural resources across Wales.”
The Cymru Football Biodiversity Partnership aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and innovative ideas, leading to the co-development of initiatives that raise awareness about biodiversity issues. These initiatives will focus on education, encouraging sustainable practices within the football community, and actively contributing to conservation efforts.
One of the primary goals of the partnership is to minimise the impact of football-related activities on nature. This includes adopting eco-friendly practices in stadiums and football facilities, promoting biodiversity-friendly practices, and engaging fans in conservation activities.
Football has a unique ability to unite people, and by combining this power with conservation efforts, we can make a real difference in protecting Wales’ rich natural heritage.
The launch of the Cymru Football Biodiversity Partnership marks a significant step forward in integrating environmental consciousness within the Welsh football community and achieving the objectives set out in the FAW’s Sustainability Strategy, Cymru Wellbeing and the world.
